Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I’m not a veteran. Can I join?
A: Absolutely! Although the organization is primarily geared toward veterans, former service members and current or former members of the civilian auxiliaries of the armed forces we do allow civilians to join as well. Our bylaws however limit civilian membership to 40% of the overall member list.
Q: What if the civilian membership of VDC is already at the maximum 40% allowed under the bylaws?
A: If the membership is already made up of 40% civilians, then new civilian applicants will be waitlisted until there are membership slots available. No membership dues will be collected until they are able to join.
Q: How is training and qualification handled?
A: As a membership application is processed we review the member’s existing qualifications and training. Members are free to submit any certificates, transcripts, military training or life experience for consideration. Some applicants may already have enough existing training and experience to qualify them for a response role or team membership. Training within VDC is done through in-person classroom sessions, field drills / exercises, online virtual and independent self-study programs.
